Everyone, and every organisation, has them to a greater or lesser extent. Edward de Bono defined a problem as the difference between what one wants and what one has, so a problem can be a strategic gap for the organisation, or the fact that an individual needs to raise productivity.

Problem solving is a key skill, and it's one that can make a huge difference to the effectiveness of individuals and organisations. At work, problems are where many people focus their time every day. You're either solving a problem for a customer, supporting those who are solving problems, or finding new problems to solve. Becoming a good problem solver is really important!

Sigmapro uses the Lean Six Sigma methodologies of DMAIC and DMADV to structure problem solving, but effective problem solving is more than knowing a methodology, or even knowing the tools within the methodology. Effective problem solving comes from years of application, years of working with different problems and developing innovative solutions. What is learnt in one situation can be used again in another.

We teach and coach other people to solve their own problems, and through this work, we realised we are pretty good at problem solving ourselves!
